YOUR SPEAKERS:

On the 14th September 2017, Jamie will inspire you with tales of how he realised both his personal and career goals. In life nothing comes easy and Jamie’s career was no exception. Let him inspire you with lessons about how he navigated a path through hardship, self doubt and pain to carve a career laced with achievement. About Jamie  Jamie Peacock MBE is unquestionably one of the best players of his generation. He won every domestic honour in the game and who can forget the major part he played in Leeds Rhinos achieving the treble in the 2015/2016 season. His many achievements in the game include winning; Man of Steel, Players’ Player of the Year, Rugby League Writers’ Player of the Year and perhaps the pinnacle for any sportsman being Captain of your country. In 2011 he was recognised in the News Years Honours List and was awarded an MBE for his services to the game. Honours are the end result of talent, hard work and resilience. If these attributes resonate with you, come along on the 14th September and listen to one of the country’s most inspirational and commanding sportsmen.
Kevin Sinfield MBE Kevin Sinfield played his entire professional career with Leeds and is one of the most successful players in Super League history, having captained the team to seven Super League championships and two Challenge Cup successes. Individual accolades include being the winner of the Lance Todd Trophy (2005), Harry Sunderland Trophy twice (2009, 2012) and the Golden Boot (2012). ‘Sir Kev’ is the only captain to ever lead a team to win three back-to-back-to-back Super League titles. Since ‘hanging up his boots’ Kevin has become the Rugby Director for Rugby Football League. Kevin is a true legend of the game and an inspiration both on and off the pitch. Arise ‘Sir Kev’! Martin Wolstencroft Martin Wolstencroft may be known to many in the Yorkshire Hospitality Industry, but many may not know that his career began at The Skyrack in Headingley in 1990. Following this he became the youngest manager at Whitbread’s to manage an annual turnover of more than a million pounds. Martin founded Arc Inspirations in 1999, and opened The Arc in Headingley with fantastic success. The group now boasts 14 bars and restaurants including locally, The Arc, The Pit, Manhatta and Banyan Bar & Kitchen which are located in the Leeds area. Unashamedly entrepreneurial, Martin has an undeniable passion for the industry with a contagious enthusiasm that extends to every aspect of the customer service experience at any of his bars. Simon Brown In December 2006, while serving in Basra, Iraq, Simon helped rescue six colleagues who were coming under fire after their vehicle broke down. The corporal with Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, attached to 2 Lancashire, as he withdrew a sniper’s shot left him fighting for his life –, destroying his left eye and severely damaging his face. Eleven years on - He works full time for Blind Veterans UK the charity as an engagement and communications officer, combing this role with being a Help for Heroes Ambassador and working with Derbyshire Police talking to GCSE students about the value of personal responsibility. He is also a Help For Heroes Band of Brothers Ambassador and since 2013 has been involved in a project with Derbyshire Police called Your Choice, where he speaks to GCSE students about responsibility. Simon is an inspiration to all who meets him. Come and be inspired! Presented by Tanya Arnold  About Tanya Arnold Tanya is a British Sports television presenter who is perhaps best known for presenting the TV show-The Super League Show and BBC Look North. Tanya will be the ‘mortar between the bricks’ and ensure the evening is fun and enlightening for everyone.

23rd March 2017 - A Review Of The Night

What does four great speakers, a superb host, an audience of over 200 engaged people, a super venue and a charitable cause make for – you got it - A GREAT NIGHT!
The first ‘A night with Jamie Peacock’ event, staged in partnership with The Squeaker was held on the 23rd March  at Leeds Trinity University. Over 200 people attended the event and what was really pleasing was the age range in the audience. People of all ages sat down to enjoy an entertaining and ultimately, inspiring night. I have to admit I was not sure what to expect from the evening and thought it might be solely geared toward business people but I was wrong. The night had something for everyone, businesses entertained their employees and clients, families came to be entertained and individuals mixed during the break at Leeds Trinity University. Jamie Peacock gave the audience a rare insight into his struggles to make it in the game. He spoke of how he overcame a lack of confidence and ability at the start of his career to reaching the pinnacle of his sport through positive thought and actions. Hugely successful businessman Richard Norman spoke about his role in the community, the sometimes rocky road to business success and the importance of emotional intelligence. Expertly and humorously hosted by Tanya Arnold the first half of the evening was really enjoyable. The speakers combined their life experiences with key lessons. The atmosphere was light hearted however both Richard and Jamie gave ‘food for thought’. After a short break, Jamie Jones Buchanan electrified the audience with his quick wit and sheer presence. JJB shared personal stories from his childhood and his journey to his current position as the mainstay of Leeds Rhinos, alongside stories of how tidy Kevin Sinfield likes to keep his house! The last speaker was Andy Reid, a triple amputee who talked about his career in the army and his journey since he was injured by a Taliban IED in Helmand Province in 2009. What really came through was his love for the army, his selfless lack of pity and his determination to help others and focus on the next chapter of his life. Perhaps the most powerful image of the evening was Andy’s slide showing his platoon and how young those lads looked. My son was absolutely captivated by his story and has been engrossed in Andy’s book ever since the event. (Standing Tall) The story of Andy's bravery and determination to get back to "normal" combined with his sense of humour and his modest manner when recalling the terrible experiences he survived had the room captivated. What was really clear about the evening was that it did not matter if you liked Rugby League, the speeches went beyond individual sport and an underlying message that I took away was that everyone takes knocks in life and it is how you respond that defines you.
